The mayor of the unusually named Austrian town called 'Fucking' has appealed to British tourists to stop stealing their road signs. Siegfried Hauppl told reporters that the small town has always attracted a lot of attention from European tourists who like to drive up from nearby Salzburg in order to pose for snapshots in front of the amusing village signs.

Mr. Hauppl told reporters that the locals were getting fed up with having to replace the signs every week because tourists had been stealing them for souvenirs.
"We had a vote last year on whether to rename the town, but decided to keep it as it is", he said.
"After all, Fucking has existed for 800 years, probably when a Mr Fuck or the Fuck family moved into the area. The 'ing' was added as a word for settlement."
Apparently the villagers only discovered the English meaning of the word after British and American soldiers arrived in the area in 1945 and collapsed laughing in a heap at the village border.
Hauppl said: "We all know what it means now, but for us Fucking is Fucking - we don't give it a second thought." (That seems very strange to the guys here at the Daily Happy Pill because Fucking always seems to be on our minds!)
Franz Duernsteiner, an expert on bizarre Austrian village names, told the Daily Happy Pill that the residents of Fucking were actually very "conservative" people who often feel embarrassed to say the word when someone asks them where they come from.
"Residents of two other Austrian villages, Wank on the Lake and Windpassing also suffered a similar reluctance", he added.
When our Daily Happy Pill reporter asked Mr. Duernsteiner what was the strangest village name he had come across in his career, he told us that, without a doubt, it was a small hamlet named Go Fuck Yourself You Nosey Bastard.
"I've never managed to find it on any of the local maps of the area - but I know it must be very close to here", he added.
"After all, whenever I ask someone down at the local tavern which village they come from, they always give me the same reply: "Go Fuck Yourself You Nosey Bastard!"
